March Guest Speaker- David Velie on "The Dream Manager"

 Robin Wilcox on Friday 05 March 2010 - 14:55:59
The Dream Manager Program
Designed to help both employees and companies become the best version of themselves. Based on Matthew Kelly's bestseller book "The Dream Manager"

Managing people is difficult. With disengagement and turnover on the rise, many managers are scratching their heads wondering what to do. It's not that we don't dream of being great managers, it's just that we haven't found a practical and efficient way to do it. Until now....

Presenter David Velie, a Cincinnati based management consultant personally trained by Matthew Kelly, uses the Dream Manager's consulting approach to develop the best in teams by developing team members to be the best version of themselves. What's your dream?

About The Dream Manager:
The fictional company in this remarkable book is grappling with real problems of high turnover and low morale- so the managers begin to investigate what really drives the employees. What they discover is that the key to motivation isn't necessarily the promise of a bigger paycheck or title, but rather the fulfillment of crucial personal dreams. They also learn that people at every level need to be offered specific kinds of help of encouragement - or our dreams will forever remain just dreams as we grow dissatisfied with our jobs and lives.

Beginning with his important thought that a company can only become the best-version-of-itself to the extent that its employees are becoming better-versions-of-themselves, Matthew Kelly explores the connection between the dreams we are chasing personally and the way we all engage at work. Taking on the growing problem of employee disengagement, Kelly explores the dynamic collaboration that is unleashed when people work together to achieve company objectives and personal dreams.
The power of The Dream Manager is that simply becoming aware of the concept will change the way you manage and relate to people instantly and forever.

Christmas Comes Early for Kings Island Resort and Conference Center Employee

 Robin Wilcox on Sunday 20 December 2009 - 17:00:22
An employee of the Kings Island Resort and Conference Center received an early Christmas - courtesy of the Tourism Council of Greater Cincinnati (TCGC).
On Tuesday, TCGC presented Jennifer Houston with $500 and gifts for her 8 children. A small ceremony was held at the Kings Island Resort and Conference Center. TCGC board members Wally Bucher, Jeff Blom, and Heather Kessler made the presentation.
Houston recently relocated to the greater Cincinnati area. She works to support her 8 children (3 of which are adopted) and husband who is disabled.

Fellow employee, Angie Spring, nominated Houston. “She is a really nice lady and deserves a break,” said Spring. “Right after she moved here, her car broke down and she needs a new one.”

Each December, TCGC hosts a silent auction. Proceeds of this annual holiday event allow TCGC to award a monetary donation to one needy worker in the tourism industry. Members of TCGC donated gifts for Houston’s children.

Houston has been employed at the Kings Island Resort and Conference Center in the Food and Beverage department for 8 months.
